Rancho de Arroyo Chico ledger and related papers, 1840-1900.

Consists of a ledger (1868-1900) concerning the management of Bidwell's ranch, farm, and household. It itemizes wages, supplies, cattle sold, work performed, freight shipped, type of payment made, paper and periodical subscriptions, political party donations, and compensation received for broken or missplaced materials. With this ledger are an accounting sheet, a bill, and a memorandum concerning relative rainfall for 1840-1851.

Bidwell was a noted early Calif. pioneer, landowner, and statesman. He helped form the Western Immigration Society in 1840, which led to the formation of the Bidwell-Bartleson wagon train, the first emigrant train to Calif. He travelled through Utah in 1841, then forged the Calif. immigrant trail. In 1846 he wrote the Bear Flag platform.
